YMSL: Moms & Sons Serve Together
THE WHY: Boy moms understand the challenges of trying to spend quality time with their sons. Teaching them to look beyond themselves and help others can also be a challenge. The Young Men’s Service League, Northeast Atlanta, YMSL NE, addresses both of these challenges and has become an impactful part of our community.
HOW THEY SERVE: YMSL is a non-profit organization that initiates and encourages young men and their mothers to pursue philanthropic involvement in their community and provides an opportunity to enhance mother/son relationships. The NE chapter has over 200 members and has served over 4000 volunteer hours just since April of 2019! YMSL NE supports more than 25 local philanthropies including the helping with job fairs at the Norcross Co-Op, delivering Meals on Wheels, playing BINGO with residents of Senior Centers, YMCA Parents Night Out, assisting at camps at Autry Mill Nature Preserve and preparing meals at two Ronald McDonald Houses. One of the boys’ favorites is preparing and serving dinners to our local veterans. YMSL NE also participates in an “Ultimate Gift” project each year. This year these amazing moms and sons helped build a playground fence and paint the interior of Imagine Me Academy, a preschool for homeless children in downtown Atlanta. Imagine!
GET INVOLVED: Imagine being able to give back to your community serving WITH your son, and instilling the values to make our communities thrive no matter where we live.
